About “With a Stone Rolling”

Joseph Smith Jr. referred to himself as a “rough stone rolling”.  No, he wasn’t organizing a new rock ‘n roll band or revealing a new pop culture magazine.  He thought of himself as a rough stone bumbling and tumbling down a mountain.  No man could shape him, but rather Heaven alone would gradually (and sometimes shockingly) crack off each imperfection until he becomes a smooth rock that rolled perfectly.  You know, like a bowling ball.

The Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, with the Book of Mormon, is a lasting legacy of Smith’s many visions and revelations. The church has a fascinating past.  Believers and skeptics have always enjoyed immersing themselves into the people, doctrine, and events that make the church’s history unique, mystifying, and inspiring.  Many podcasts intend to provide faith-altering perspectives surrounding the church.  Some focus on church doctrine, while others look at church history and culture.  Most of these other podcasts are very well thought-out and have a polished and well-structured format.  One might say they are rolling along smoothly.  Again, like a bowling ball.

“With a Stone Rolling” also strives to be like a bowling ball—heavy but smooth. Heavy because Jon and Tyler focus on the documents, sermons, and other primary sources that influenced thought and belief of early church leaders and followers.  We will discuss what these sources meant to the people who created them and those that first encountered them. Smooth, because we make history look mmm mmm good.

We invite you to join us live on YouTube or Facebook to interact and ask questions as we flip up the bumpers and zig-zag our way down lanes long past. Together we will discover a history of the church that has grown like a stone cut from a mountain without hands, founded by a prophet whose legacy will never die.

Listen, interact, and enjoy “With a Stone Rolling”.
